Web 2.0 continued

The number of web pages is in the billions and I expect it won't be long before the sum total of all mankind's knowledge will be available if it is not already... and then some. I have been enjoying my journey thru Web 2.0 with Learn 2.0 and 2.1. I have learned about many things that I didn't even know existed as well as some very useful sites. I hope this will continue.

Open Source's time has come

I have long been a proponent of the open source software movement. I am currently investigating ways in which we can educate our patrons as to the offerings we have in the way of open source software. They may see it on our schedules but most do not have any idea what it is from its name.
I very much enjoyed reading about the efforts that are being made in the way of music and videos such as Willie Nelson and Radiohead are making. I will keenly follow this effort.
I think that the library has to continue its efforts to utilize the evolving technologies to serve the community. I think the new mission statement is very appropiate for the times.
Today it seems that we are overwhelmed with information. As John Naisbitt puts it in his book Megatrends, “we are drowning in information but starved for knowledge." What we need is a better way to assimilate the data and turn it into knowledge. And I find what Einstein said to be true in my case... "The more that I learn, the more I realize how much that I don't know." I hope that the Web 3.0 will provide some unique ways to solve that dilemma.

Learn 2.1 Lesson 3

Combining Health and Wellness with Technology....What a concept! Why didn't I think of that. I wanted to join in the Steptember walks but I could not find a way to count my steps each day. I tried but I could just not do it. From this lesson I learned of the Pedometer of which I was not aware. Now I can obtain one and participate. Great!!

Time to reactivate my dormant blog.

I like the new features that have been added. I am going to investigate the followers feature and implement them here on my blog.

Starting Learn 2.1

technology is moving forward at an ever increasing rate and it would be virtually impossibe to keep up without some assistance. I appreciate working for the Orange county Library system and their commitment to assisting us in this endeavor.
